¡Bienvenidos, Escuela Monarca! 

It is exciting to begin our journey as Monarca Elementary! This school year brings an inspiring transformation of endurance, hope, and resilience.  Together, we will grow, learn, and collaborate from these humble beginnings.  Our shared efforts will help us navigate a complex yet uplifting path as we debut our new Spanish Immersion program with the Monarca affiliation. 

Our school remains firmly committed to our mission and vision: developing socially responsible, lifelong learners who embrace multiculturalism, alongside Spanish and English biliteracy-bilingualism.  Additionally, we proudly retain our student-elected mascot, Los Lobos, our 5-core CARES values, and the United Farm Workers collective motto, “¡Sí se puede!”  

Welcome to a new chapter in our school’s history.  We unite under the symbol of Monarca and carry forward the strength of the Lobo Way.  Guided by our shared symbols and values, we strive to elevate our bilingual identity, expand our civic engagement, and champion social justice for immigrant and farmworker communities.

Classroom Assignments DJUSD Parent Portal

Parents of elementary students who have completed their Online Re-Enrollment by visiting the Parent Portal, will receive the classroom teacher assignment of their student(s) on Monday, August 24, 8:00 a.m.  New families to Monarca will receive additional information and invitation to our Monarca school tour scheduled for Monday, August 24.

Away for the Day Device Policy

One important change families and students will notice is the implementation of our new TK-12 "Away for the Day" mobile device policy.  Beginning this year, students are expected to turn off their personal mobile devices - including cell phones, smart watches, earbuds and other wearable technology - and keep them stored away throughout the school day. This districtwide approach is designed to reduce distractions, increase student engagement, strengthen face-to-face connections and support student well-being. We are grateful for the partnership of our families and staff as students adjust to this change and adapt to a new daily routine.  TK-6th grade students must keep smart watches in backpacks between 8:10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m./3:00 p.m.

First Week of School, (Tu-F, August 25-28)

During the first week of school only, Monarca will be open to families and caregivers for TK-6th student drop off and pick ups.  On Monday, August 31, Monarca campus will return to perimeter arrival/drop-off and dismissal/pick-up zones on campus and caregivers and families are permitted along the perimeter of the campus; in front of the school, the bike corral area near the MPR, and/or in Redwood Park zones during school operations.  All visitors who will be on campus during the school day must check into our school office Vercata system between 8:10 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.  There is no staff supervision before 8:10 a.m. and after 3:15 p.m.

Monarca staff and I will continue the momentum of our shared efforts to implement our DJUSD Strategic Plan.  Our staff’s actions are rooted in our district’s and school’s goals that center on designing Spanish-English dual language bilingual education (DLBE) foundations and competencies that align with 1) Designing (UDL) instruction and lesson plans that embrace learner variability, minimize barriers and create student experiences characterized by inclusivity and belonging for our students, 2) fostering a caring school community that embodies collaboration, engagement, and outreach with increased channels of 2-way communication, 3) supporting the adults and staff with systems that support ongoing professional development, planning time, and resources to address the needs of our students, 4) a commitment to continuous improvement through planning, data analysis, resource allocation, program evaluation, and celebration.

Back To School Nights

Childcare is not available at this event, therefore we respectfully ask that childcare be pre-arranged in advance off campus.  Redwood Park is an optional space for child supervision for extended family, caregivers and household siblings.

Updates

2026-27 Monarca Enrollment and Staff 

Enrollment numbers continue to decrease across DJUSD elementary schools.  Monarca TK will continue to have one (1) AM class, 1st-3rd grades will continue to have three classes for this school year.  The incoming 4th and 5th grade cohorts have collapsed again into one combination class 4th/5th, with two classrooms of 4th, and two 5th grade classrooms with 28 students or less.  And the 6th grade cohort has collapsed to two (2) 6th grade classrooms with 32 or less students per class.

Student Medical Forms and Medications Drop-Off at CCE

Drop off hours for TK-6 Monarca students who have medical forms or medications may drop off at our Monarca Elementary Office between August 17 – 24, 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Monarca Elementary is a highly engaged, community-based school and your contribution, small or large, matters to eachTK-6th grade student and their family in our program. We are thrilled to reconnect and see you and your students soon. What a great year we are going to have together!

SIPAT:  Spanish Immersion Parents and Teachers (our school's PTA). Become a member, join in on SIPAT committees, donate to the "un-fundraiser" to support school enrichment programs, and sign up to volunteer for the coming year. Site Council:  California Education Code requires the school site council to develop a Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) to create a cycle of continuous improvement of student performance, and to ensure that all students succeed in reaching academic standards set by the State Board of Education. Learn more about what our site council does, who serves on it, when it meets, and how to get more involved.  Our first meeting takes place in person, Wed., September 18, 3:30-5:00 p.m. in the Monarca Library.

ELAC: English Learners Advisory Committee. Meet representatives from this important group that works to address the needs and goals of English Language Learners at our school site.

Climate Committee: Learn more about the social climate events and programs supported by this devoted gathering of parents, school counselor, teachers and administrator.

Environment Enrichment Program (EEP):  Meet SIPAT members who lead and volunteer for our Lobos Activos program, school EEP gardens and Green School Classroom.  Learn more by visiting the SIPAT website here or inquire about ways to volunteer at the EEP information booth.
